Hotel industry embraces sustainable change in Peru

La industria hotelera adopta un cambio sostenible en Perú

Today 30 June is World Hospitality Day, and we would like to take this opportunity to give special recognition to those hotel companies that are taking a significant step towards more sustainable and ethical practices. Large chains such as Marriott, Wyndham, Best Western, Hyatt, Choice Hotels and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), have announced their commitment to use cage-free eggs in all their operations.

National transition to cage-free eggs

In Peru, companies in the hotel sector have also joined this corporate trend. Recently, Estelar Hotels of Peruin collaboration with Green Commitmentannounced its commitment to start sourcing cage-free eggs from this year. Companies that have also taken this important step towards sustainability include Selina, Antigua Casona San Blas, La Fragata, Carolina Egg Gasthaus and Explora, among others.

Transparency and progress in the industry

Companies such as Hilton, Louvre Hotels Group and Meliá Hotels International have taken a significant step towards transparency, reporting on the progress of their commitments to source eggs from cage-free hens across their global portfolios. This information comes just 17 days after the launch of a global campaign led by the coalition Open Wing Allianceof which Green Commitment is part of it, urging these hotel companies to provide details of their implementation plans. Once fulfilled, these commitments will reduce the annual suffering of nearly 861,000 hens in supply chains.

Adopting a cage-free commitment not only strengthens a company's reputation, but also responds to the growing demand of conscious consumers.
