Green Commitment

Who we are and what we do

Compromiso Verde is an organisation committed to the promoting more ethical and sustainable food through partnerships with companies, institutions and governments. We are facing one of the greatest challenges of our time: climate change. This global phenomenon will affect all living things, ecosystems and the health and well-being of billions of people, threatening our very survival. The current food system is unsustainable and devastating. Animal production alone accounts for approximately 20% of greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, uses 8% of global water consumption and occupies one third of the world's available land, leading to deforestation, pollution and loss of biodiversity.

Our mission:

Eradicate animal suffering exploited for consumption in Latin America and the world.
We work to eliminate cruelty and promote an environment where they can live without restrictions, fully expressing their natural behaviours.

Our Vision:

A world where no animal is exploited. We began to transform animal production in Latin America and globally, driving the adoption of less cruel systems for food animals. Through strategic partnerships with organisations, we are accelerating the end of cruelty in the industry and working towards a future free of animal violence, starting with the liberation of hens from the battery cage system.

Why Peru?

Some 29 million laying hens are reared in industrial conditions in Peru, with a per capita consumption of 304 eggs per year. The lack of adequate public policies for animal welfare is a major concern. Peru represents an important poultry market, which provides a solid basis for positively influencing animal welfare.

Our campaign, aligned with the principles of effective altruism, seeks to improve conditions for hens and promote a more ethical food system.

Paolo
Our rescued pet

Paolo came to the team after being rescued as an orphaned and sick pigeon. Since then, he has become a symbol of resilience and his presence reminds the team of the importance of not giving up, even when circumstances seem adverse. Paolo often stretches his wings and flies off in search of a more comfortable place, reminding us of the importance of ensuring that all birds live in the wild and have the opportunity to express their natural behaviours. Among his favourite activities, he enjoys spending time watching from the window and, without a doubt, his favourite thing to do is to relax by taking long baths.
